On Wednesday 8 April, the European Parliament’s Agriculture Committee approved the text of the Interinstitutional Agreement on the revision of the regulation on the common market organisation (CMO). The new rules, for which Céline Imart (EPP, French) is rapporteur, were approved by 39 votes to 4 with one abstention.
The EU Council endorsed this agreement on 23 March (see EUROPE 13834/5). Representatives of the European Parliament and the EU Council reached a provisional agreement on this revision of the CMO regulation on 5 March (see EUROPE 13823/8).
In particular, the new rules make it possible to protect certain names associated with meat (such as ‘steak’) and to exclude products derived from cell culture from the use of these terms.
The European Parliament still has to formally adopt the text. (Original version in French by Lionel Changeur)
