07/04/2026 (Agence Europe) – On 2 April, European Bioplastics (EUBP) welcomed Italy’s draft legislative proposal on certified industrial compostable packaging, seeing it as a “positive and pragmatic” signal for the sector. According to the association, the text provides greater legal certainty at a critical moment for the market, and sends an encouraging message to companies investing in certified compostable solutions. The Italian initiative, she adds, is an important step towards clearer recognition of the role of such packaging in specific uses. The proposal is considered particularly relevant when compostability delivers a tangible functional benefit, particularly for packaging contaminated with food or difficult to sort. EUBP states that it will continue to engage constructively with decision-makers and stakeholders in support of a coherent policy framework for certified industrial compostable packaging. (LC)
