23/03/2026 (Agence Europe) – The Council of Notariats of the EU (CNUE) was not particularly enthusiastic about the Commission’s proposal to create a 28th regime for companies (see EUROPE 13831/8) and the new legal form called “EU Inc.”. It seeks to “introduce a new company form whose concept is alien to European continental law and legal traditions”, says the CNUE in a press release. “The EU Inc. would enter into unfair competition with existing national company forms, thereby triggering a race to the bottom”, the CNUE believes at this stage; “robust mechanisms for anti-money laundering, identity verification, fraud prevention, and oversight are indispensable. The European notarial system provides these safeguards today; a parallel system without equivalent controls would expose the single market to serious risks”. (SP)
