€12 million in EU funds to support agricultural reforms in Ukraine

On Thursday 19 March, the European Union announced €12 million in funding to support agricultural reforms, rural development and food safety in Ukraine.

This aid marks the launch of the third phase of the EU4SmallFarms and EU4SaferFood projects, financed by the ‘Ukraine Facility’.

The aim of this support is to strengthen rural development, support small farms and help Ukraine align its legislation and practices with EU standards. The areas concerned include agriculture, food safety, animal health and welfare and phytosanitary policy.

According to Stefan Schleuning, Head of Cooperation at the EU Delegation in Ukraine, this funding will help to improve the quality of agricultural products and create new opportunities to access the European market.

The two programmes will run for 40 months, until 2029, and will be implemented in coordination with Ukrainian ministries and several state agencies.

EU4SaferFood, with a budget of €5.4 million, aims to strengthen food safety, animal health and phytosanitary compliance with EU standards.

EU4SmallFarms (€7.5 million) will support Ukraine’s legislative alignment with the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). (Original version in French by Lionel Changeur)
