European Commission and Germany announce €135 million in support to strengthen Armenia’s energy resilience

20/03/2026 (Agence Europe)On Thursday 19 March, during European Commissioner Marta Kos’ visit to Armenia (see EUROPE 13832/21), the Armenian Finance Minister, Vahe Hovhannisyan, and the Director of the German public development bank KfW (Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau), Veronica Garcia del Arco, signed two new financing agreements worth €135 million for the Caucasus electricity transmission network project. These agreements include a €120 million loan from KfW, guaranteed by the German government, and a €15 million grant from the EU Neighbourhood Investment Platform. The aim is to strengthen Armenia’s energy security and independence, increase renewable energy production throughout the country and strengthen the regional integration of the Armenian electricity market. Armenia will also have access to the European electricity network. (CG)
