Brussels, 27/02/2026 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 26 February, the European branch of the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association (ILGA-Europe) published the 15th edition of its annual report dedicated to the human rights situation of LGBTI people in Europe and Central Asia. The document, which covers 2025, denounces a consolidation of restrictions within the European Union itself, where measures initially aimed at sexual minorities now resonate with a broader regression in the rule of law. The report notably cites Hungary’s adoption of legislation that bans LGBTI ‘Pride’ assemblies—a first in a Member State—as well as constitutional amendments that strictly define a person’s sex as a biological fact. Nevertheless, the document does note some developments in the opposite direction in the EU, notably the repeal of the last “LGBTI-free zone” resolution in Poland.
