Brussels, 27/02/2026 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 27 February, the European Union renewed its partnership with the Pacific Community (SPC), the Pacific Islands Forum Fisheries Agency (FFA) and the University of the South Pacific (USP). The €20 million ‘PEUMP II’ programme, the second phase of the Pacific-EU Marine Partnership, will run until 2030, benefiting Pacific island countries and Timor-Leste. It aims to strengthen maritime governance, support the fishing industry and combat illegal fishing. “This agreement between our two regions – which collectively represent almost 40 countries is a powerful demonstration of our shared, long-term commitment to the ocean – a clear signal that, despite our different geographies, we are united by a common purpose and a shared responsibility to protect and sustainably manage our oceans”, said the EU Ambassador to the Pacific, Barbara Plinkert, in Suva (Fiji).
