24/02/2026 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 23 February, the European Commission, on behalf of the EU, and the Federal Republic of Nigeria opened negotiations for a bilateral Science and Technology Cooperation Agreement. These negotiations took place as part of the second EU-Nigeria Science and Innovation Day on Tuesday 24 February in Lagos. The aim of this agreement is to strengthen cooperation in research and innovation (R&I). It would provide a political framework for jointly determining future action in the priority areas set out in the multilateral 10-year African Union-EU Innovation Agenda (2023-2033). The EU has already signed similar bilateral agreements with 20 countries around the world, including five African countries: Algeria, Egypt, Morocco, South Africa and Tunisia. (AD)
