MEPs and organisations from services of general interest and social economy launch ‘Coalition for Freedom to Stay

On Monday 23 February, the SGI Europe association and the MEPs in the European Parliament’s Intergroup on the Social Economy and Services of General Interest launched the ‘Coalition for the Freedom to Stay’, according to a press release.

Launched in the presence of Enrico Letta, author of the report on the future of the European single market, as well as MEPs Camilla Laureti (S&D, Italian), Marion Walsmann (EPP, German) and Karlo Ressler (EPP, Croatian), the ‘Coalition’ “builds on a simple principle: while the Single Market guarantees the Freedom to Move, Europe’s long-term competitiveness depends equally on ensuring that people are not compelled to leave their regions due to structural gaps”.

Indeed, many citizens leave their regions and companies relocate not because they want to, but because access to affordable and high-quality SGIs such as hospitals, education, transport and other essential services is insufficient”.

The ‘Coalition’ will bring together businesses, social partners, local and regional actors, political decision-makers and civil society organisations.
