07/01/2026 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 7 January and until 4 February, the European Commission launched a call for evidence on ‘better regulation’ and how to make EU regulation more effective, proportionate and efficient, particularly for SMEs. Among other things, the Commission wants to improve the consultation system and ensure that “EU laws can become clearer, more straightforward, easier to implement and transpose, more enforceable and less burdensome”. The initiative “will consider more focused assessment of impacts, more targeted analysis, more proportionate approach to better tailor better regulation instruments to the types or importance of initiatives and the significance of the likely impacts”. It will also focus on “simplicity by design”. The areas under consideration include the choice of regulatory instruments (directives, regulations, implementing acts, etc.).
