07/01/2026 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 7 January, Danish MEP Per Clausen (The Left) circulated a draft letter (https://aeur.eu/f/k6i ) to the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, and the group chairmen, calling for an immediate freeze on work on EU-US trade “for as long as claims for Greenland and threats are made by the US-administration”. At its February plenary session, Parliament is due to vote on the two regulations lowering tariffs on a list of American products (see EUROPE 13762/15) presented by the Commission as part of the joint declaration signed last summer (see EUROPE 13697/4). In the event of persistent threats, the letter stresses the need to encourage the Commission to put an end to any new negotiations with the United States. Mr Clausen hopes to collect as many signatures as possible from MEPs before the letter is finally sent on 14 January. (PLD)
