15/10/25 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 15 October, the ambassadors of the Member States to the European Union (Coreper) adopted the position of the Council of the EU on the proposal to grant Jordan a fifth macro-financial assistance package of up to €500 million to help the country consolidate its public finances and meet its external financial needs (see EUROPE 13694/22). Granted on preferential terms (possible moratorium on repayment, maturity of up to 35 years), this loan will be distributed in three instalments to cover a period of two and a half years. It will be conditional on structural reforms and respect for democratic principles and standards. In mid-September, the Commission paid Amman a first instalment of €250 million in aid under the fourth macro-financial assistance package (see EUROPE 13711/16).
