01/09/2025 (Agence Europe) – At the end of August, the European Commission released a further €1.35 million in emergency financial aid to combat the cholera epidemic in eastern Chad. The disease was detected in July in a refugee camp in Ouaddaï province. This emergency aid from the European Union is aimed at curbing the spread of the disease in a region that has been facing an influx of almost 1.2 million people fleeing the conflict in neighbouring Sudan since April 2023. The European funding is intended to support the work of partner organisations on the ground, in particular by setting up cholera treatment centres, supplying medicines and medical equipment and improving water, sanitation and hygiene facilities.
