EU High Representative appoints five Directors-General or Deputy Directors-General, thirty-six Heads of Delegation and two Deputy Heads of Delegation

On Saturday 30 August, EU High Representative Kaja Kallas announced the appointment of five Directors-General to the European External Action Service (EEAS), 36 Heads of Delegation and two Deputy Heads of Delegation.

Martin Bille Hermann has been appointed Director General for Multilateral Relations, Human Rights and Democracy, Deputy Political Director and Patricia Llombart-Cussac Director General for Africa. Emanuele Giauffret has been appointed Deputy CEO for Europe and Central Asia, Taneli Lahti Deputy CEO for Global Issues, and Matthew Reece Deputy CEO for Policy Planning and Strategic Communications.

Iwona Pórko-Bermig has been appointed EU ambassador to Moldova, Andreas von Beckerath to Serbia and Andreas Künne to Switzerland.

Michael Mann becomes EU ambassador to Israel, Klemens Sempter to Iraq and Patrick Simonnet to Yemen.

Erik Høeg heads the EU delegation to Argentina, Jens Urban to Cuba, François Roudie to Colombia and Hélène Roos to Haiti. The EU delegation in Guatemala will be led by Johanna Karanko, that in Barbados by Fiona Ramsey and that in the Dominican Republic by Raul Fuentes Milani.

Duccio Bandini has been appointed EU ambassador to El Salvador. Luca Pierantoni is taking up the same position in French Guiana, Katja Afheldt in Paraguay and Petros Mavromichalis in Uruguay. 

Dimiter Tzantchev becomes EU ambassador to Morocco, Philippe Bronchain ambassador to Burkina Faso, Irchad Razaaly to Côte d’Ivoire and Francesca di Mauro to Somalia. Sylvie Millot has been appointed Head of Delegation in Cabo Verde, Joanna Darmanin in Eritrea, Per Enarsson in South Sudan and Daniel Aristi Gaztelumendi in Malawi.

The EU delegation in Guinea-Bissau will be led by Federico Bianchi, that in Guinea Conakry by Xavier Sticker and that in Lesotho by Mette Sunnergren.

The EU’s new ambassador to Singapore will be Artis Bertulis, while Ugo Astuto will fill this position in South Korea. Raimundas Karoblis takes over as head of the delegation in Pakistan, Thorsten Bargfrede in Timor-Leste and Marc Fiedrich becomes Acting Chargé d’Affaires in Myanmar. Radosław Darski has been appointed EU ambassador to Tajikistan and Marijana Kujundžić to Azerbaijan. Erika Hasznos becomes Head of Delegation in Papua New Guinea.

Deike Potzel has been appointed EU Ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva.

Soren Liborius has been appointed Deputy Head of Delegation in Russia and Gediminas Navickas is taking up the same position in Ukraine. (Original version in French by Camille-Cerise Gessant)
