30/06/2025 (Agence Europe) – Member States have two months – “until the end of July” – to first express their interest in applying for loans from the ‘SAFE’ instrument, and then they will have “a further four months” to detail the type of projects, their partners and the budget for their projects, said Thomas Régnier, spokesperson for the European Commission, on Monday 30 June. Last week, following the European Council, the President of the EU institution, Ursula von der Leyen, indicated that “ten Member States” had so far expressed an interest in benefiting from the ‘SAFE’ instrument, which will grant up to €150 billion in loans to Member States to increase their national military spending (see EUROPE 13645/28).
