04/06/2025 (Agence Europe) – The European Union is sending experts in rock mechanics and salt mining to Romania to support efforts to restore the Praid salt mine after the floods, the European Commission announced on Wednesday 4 June. A team of eight experts will be deployed on the ground for a week, as part of the Civil Protection Mechanism activated by Romania. These environmental specialists, geologists and civil engineers come from Germany, Hungary, the Netherlands and Spain. Their mission will include “drawing up a ‘roadmap’ for restoring the mine to its normal state and assessing the potential risks to the inhabited area above the site”, according to the European Commission.
