04/04/2025 (Agence Europe) – The news coming from the southern Gaza Strip, where “[o]ver 140,000 people are being forcibly displaced” while under Israeli fire and bombing, has been described by European Commissioner Hadja Lahbib, who is in charge of humanitarian aid, as “deeply alarming”. On Friday, 4 April—Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu having begun his official visit to Hungary the previous day (see other news)—she expressed her alarm that since the ceasefire between Israel and the terrorist organisation Hamas broke down a month ago, “over 300 children have been killed”, and Gazans are facing “unbearable levels of death, disease, destruction, and hunger” notably due to the aid blockade that Israel has put in place. Mrs Lahbib also reiterated, “The use of humanitarian aid as a tool of war is prohibited by international law.” (MB)
