31/03/2025 (Agence Europe) – Late on Monday 31 March, the European Commission spokesperson’s office confirmed that the proposal to amend the regulation on CO2 standards for cars was planned for adoption at the College meeting in Strasbourg on Tuesday 1 April. Announced at the beginning of March (see EUROPE 13591/12) by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, this amendment should give carmakers a further three years to comply with the text. Previously, the plan was for annual compliance from 2025, with penalties for non-compliance. This announcement has prompted the EPP group in the European Parliament to once more postpone the resolution on the car industry tabled by three MEPs from the ECR group, despite the plenary session taking place this week (see EUROPE 13609/10).
