25/03/25 (Agence Europe) – In a joint declaration issued on Monday 24 March, the Eurogas association and around fifty international gas industry organisations called on the European Commission to recognise imports of biomethane, biomethane-based fuels and other renewable gases from third countries in the Union Database (UDB). Its aim is to ensure the traceability of biofuels and biogas in the EU. Without action, the signatories of the declaration believe that “significant volumes of renewable energy risk being excluded from EU markets”, which would have an impact on climate objectives, trade relations, and more specifically on certain sectors such as maritime transport. The coalition is therefore asking the Commission for a viable solution for imports, including “provisional recognition” for products that meet the EU’s sustainability criteria.
