On Friday 7 March, the President of the European Council, António Costa, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, informed the leaders of Canada, Iceland, Norway, the United Kingdom and Turkey of the results of the previous day’s Special European Council (see EUROPE 12594/2).
It is crucial not only for the EU, but also for the third countries in question, to reiterate the importance of cooperation with NATO partners, both on the defence of Europe in the broad sense and on the search for peace in Ukraine.
All the participants in the meeting expressed their determination to contribute to efforts to support Ukraine, according to a European source.
Kaja Kallas at the United Nations and the G7. Not unrelated to the war in Ukraine, the High Representative will be travelling to New York on 11 March, where she will address the UN Security Council.
She will then travel to Canada for a meeting of G7 foreign ministers in Charlevoix, Quebec. Discussions will focus on the situation in the Middle East, continued support for Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression, stability in the Indo-Pacific region, the current crises in Haiti and Venezuela, and the challenges of peace and security in Africa.
