European Commission launches a public consultation in automotive sector to adapt regulations

28/02/2025 (Agence Europe)On Friday 28 February, the European Commission launched a public consultation to gather feedback from automotive industry stakeholders on the competition rules applicable to vertical agreements in their sector. This initiative is part of the evaluation of the Motor Vehicle Block Exemption Regulation (MVBER), extended until 2028, which seeks to promote fair competition and guarantee that consumers have a sufficient choice of vehicles. The aim is to adapt the regulations to changes in the market, particularly digitalisation and new mobility models. “It is essential to draw on the experience of the various stakeholders - from manufacturers to independent repairers - so that we have rules that continue to foster innovation and guarantee fair competition”, said Teresa Ribera, the Commission’s Executive Vice-President for a Clean, Just and Competitive Transition, in a press release. Contributors may submit their comments until 23 May 2025. Read the consultation: https://aeur.eu/f/fp8 (JM)
