European Commission authorises Vimkunya vaccine against chikungunya, for adults and adolescents

On Friday 28 February, the European Commission authorised a vaccine against the chikungunya virus for adults and young people aged 12 and over. This is the Vimkunya vaccine (from Bavarian Nordic A/S) for active immunisation to prevent this disease.

At the end of June 2024, the Commission had already given the green light to a vaccine for adults that protects against the chikungunya virus transmitted by infected mosquitoes (see EUROPE B13442A5).
