28/02/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 27 February, the European Union expressed concern that Thailand had deported to China a group of 40 Uyghurs who had been held for more than ten years in a Bangkok detention centre. In a statement issued by the European External Action Service (EEAS), the EU said that this decision was “in violation of the principle of non-refoulement and Thailand’s obligations under national and international law as a member of the Human Rights Council”. This is the first time Thailand has deported Uighurs since 2015. The EU also calls on the Chinese government to respect its obligations under national and international law to respect and protect the human rights of these 40 people. (PLD)
