07/01/25 (Agence Europe) – Primary energy consumption in the EU reached 1,211 million tonnes of oil equivalent (Mtoe), amounting to a decrease of 3.9% compared with 2022, according to Eurostat in a publication dated 20 December 2024. The EU thus continues to move closer to the target of 992.5 Mtoe for 2030 set in the Energy Efficiency Directive (see EUROPE 13256/25). It is also the lowest level since 1990, the first year for which data are available. Final energy consumption reached 894 Mtoe in 2023, down 3% on 2022, bringing it closer to the target of 736 Mtoe by 2030. This is the second lowest level since 1990 and only 0.3% (3 Mtoe) more than the record low recorded in 2020, the year of the Covid-19 epidemic. (PLD)
