07/01/25 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 7 January, the EU condemned the new launch by the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) of an intermediate-range ballistic missile which, according to Pyongyang, was equipped with a hypersonic warhead. Images of the launch were broadcast by the North Korean state media KCTV. A press release from the European External Action Service (EEAS) stated that this new firing “violates multiple UN Security Council resolutions and further raises tensions on the Korean Peninsula“. The EU expresses its solidarity with its partners in the region, such as the Republic of Korea and Japan, and once again urges the DPRK to cease all its illegal activities and to accept offers of dialogue from the main parties. According to the EU, this is “the only path to sustainable peace and security on the Korean Peninsula”. (PLD)
