European Union and United Kingdom seal an agreement on fishing opportunities for 2025

The European Union and the United Kingdom have reached an agreement on fishing opportunities for 2025 for 88 shared stocks in the North-East Atlantic, the European Commission announced on Monday 9 December.

This agreement (https://aeur.eu/f/eq4 ) provides the EU fleet with total allowable catches (TACs) of around 428,000 tonnes (t), with an estimated commercial value of almost €1.4 billion.

For the EU, this includes 157,780 t of herring in the North Sea, 37,462 t of herring in the southern North Sea and eastern Channel, 59,097 t of horse mackerel, 25,446 t of saithe in the North Sea, 36,440 t of monkfish (for the EU) in the Channel and Celtic Sea, 7,106 t of cod in the North Sea, 2,578 t of cod in the Celtic Sea (by-catches only), 209 t of cod (West of Scotland), 11,686 t of haddock in the North Sea, 5,082 t of haddock in the Celtic Sea, 25,723 t of hake (Scotland, Channel and Celtic Sea), 15,724 t of megrim, 9,680 t of Norway lobster in the Channel and Celtic Sea, 8,300 t of sole in the North Sea and 28,726 t of whiting in the Celtic Sea.

Negotiations were also fruitful with Norway (https://aeur.eu/f/eq5 ): the EU will receive 10,316 tonnes of ‘Arctic cod’ in 2025 and will transfer 81,750 tonnes of blue whiting and 1,700 tonnes of deep-water prawns to Norway. (Original version in French by Lionel Changeur)
