29/11/24 (Agence Europe) – The members of the World Trade Organization (WTO) have reappointed Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala as Director-General for a second four-year term, starting on 1 September 2025. This decision, taken by consensus by the WTO General Council on Friday 29 November, “reflects the members’ confidence in her leadership and vision for the WTO”, said the Chair of the WTO General Council, Petter Ølberg. Ms Okonjo-Iweala said she was “grateful” for the decision. “We fully intend to get to work immediately to deliver results”, she declared. Ms Okonjo-Iweala has been in the role since 1 March 2021. She was the only candidate for WTO Director-General after 2025. (LM)
