14/11/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 14 November, the European Union announced that it had “taken note” of the appointment of Alix Didier Fils-Aimé as Haiti’s new Prime Minister by the Transitional Presidential Council. “The EU calls on the Transitional Presidential Council, the new government, and all political forces to work with urgency and determination to restore security, prioritise governance and accountability, and work towards the organization of free and fair elections”, said a spokesperson for the European External Action Service in a statement. This statement comes against a backdrop of persistent political and security crisis in Haiti (see EUROPE 13377/6), marked by the resignation of the former interim Prime Minister, Ariel Henry. His successor, Garry Conille, was dismissed on Sunday 10 November after five months in government. (BD)
