23/10/24 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 23 October, the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) deplored the fact that “just a few weeks before the deadline set for its implementation, the majority of EU Member States have still not begun the process of incorporating the minimum wage directive into their national law”. Around 20 million workers are expected to benefit from this directive, “which requires Member States where a statutory minimum wage exists to ensure that it is adequate and, for all Member States, to promote collective bargaining”. The transposition date is 15 November, and only six Member States have submitted legislation (Belgium, Hungary, Latvia, Luxembourg, Poland and Romania). Seven countries have not started the process (Cyprus, Estonia, France, Italy, Lithuania, Malta, Portugal) and three countries have indicated that no action is required (Germany, Ireland and Slovenia).
