25/09/2024 (Agence Europe) – The European Commissioner for International Partnerships, Jutta Urpilainen, announced on Tuesday 24 September, at the United Nations Global Compact Leaders Summit, €146 million in funding to reinforce the EU’s support to the Afghan people, in particular women and girls, for essential services. She also presented a $100 million pre-financing facility, developed by the European Investment Bank with the European Commission and the support of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, to help the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) guarantee better access to modern contraceptives for women and girls. The Commissioner also announced the provision of $170 million dollars in new volume guarantees for gender equality and human development. (BD)
