20/09/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 19 September, the Hungarian Minister for European Affairs, János Bóka, announced that the Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union would be holding discussions on the specific situation of Member States, including Poland, with regard to respect for the Rule of law. A discussion on the situation in Hungary will take place under the Polish Presidency in the first half of 2025, he said when presenting the priorities of the Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the EU to the European Parliament’s Committee on Constitutional Affairs. As part of the horizontal monitoring of respect for the Rule of law in the candidate countries, Mr Bóka announced a discussion this autumn with representatives from Albania, North Macedonia, Serbia and Montenegro. The aim is not to have a discussion “about them, but with them”, he said. (MB)
