16/09/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 16 September, the European Commission proposed aid of €2.7 million to support 365 workers made redundant in Belgium by the Match-Smatch chain, under the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF) for redundant workers, according to a press release. “In June 2024, Belgium applied for EGF funding to help workers in the Walloon region made redundant by Match-Smatch to find new jobs. Many of the redundancies involve lower-skilled workers aged 50 and over, who generally find it more difficult to find a job in the Walloon labour market”. The EGF will help pay for counselling services, job search assistance and vocational, digital and language training. The Council of the EU and the European Parliament must approve this proposal. (SP)
