16/09/2024 (Agence Europe) – The European Union hosted the Africa Joint Group of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) in Brussels from Monday 2 to Thursday 12 September. The Africa Joint Group is one of the four divisions of the FATF’s International Cooperation and Review Group, which reviews the progress of jurisdictions with strategic deficiencies when it comes to anti-money laundering/countering the financing of terrorism (AML/CFT). The EU recognises that AML/CFT is a priority, both to ensure the security of its citizens and to preserve the integrity of the international financial system. It provides technical assistance worldwide to a wide range of countries, including in Africa, which have requested assistance under the Global Facility on AML/CFT. (AD)
