16/09/2024 (Agence Europe) – The EU27 are expected to vote on the future implementing regulation imposing countervailing duties on Chinese electric vehicles on 25 September, according to two European sources. The outcome of this qualified majority vote is increasingly uncertain, with several major EU countries speaking out against the tariffs, notably Germany and Spain. The European Commission has until 30 October to publish its implementing regulation, which will introduce additional customs duties of up to 36.3% on Chinese electric vehicles. However, discussions are continuing between the EU and China to try and find an alternative negotiated solution. The European Commissioner for Trade, Valdis Dombrovskis, will receive the Chinese Minister of Commerce, Wang Wentao, on Thursday 19 September. (LM)
