16/09/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 16 September, the Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, announced her intention to stand for re-election. Her current term of office ends on 31 August 2025. The Director General of the WTO is appointed by consensus of all members within the General Council. Ms Okonjo-Iweala has already announced her candidacy to the General Council, although the selection process is due to start nine months before the end of the mandate, i.e. at the start of December. According to a WTO spokesperson, members expressed broad support for a second term for Ms Okonjo-Iweala at the General Council meeting in July. (LM)
