12/09/2024 (Agence Europe) – The European Commissioner for Crisis Management, Janez Lenarčič, reacted on Thursday 12 September to the death of three aid workers from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), killed during a Russian bombing of a frontline aid distribution site in the Donetsk region. Two other aid workers were injured. “This is yet another heartbreaking example of humanitarians losing their lives while trying to help people in need”, Mr Lenarčič said on X, stressing the importance of guaranteeing the safety of humanitarian workers. “It’s unconscionable that shelling would hit an aid distribution site. Our hearts are broken today as we mourn the loss of our colleagues and care for the injured”, commented Mirjana Spoljaric, president of the ICRC. (BD)
