12/09/2024 (Agence Europe) – Dutch MEP Tineke Strik (Greens/EFA) announced on X on Thursday 12 September that she had been appointed the new European Parliament and Committee on Civil Liberties rapporteur on the so-called ‘Article 7’ procedure concerning Hungary. She succeeds France’s Gwendoline Delbos-Corfield (Greens/EFA), who in turn succeeded the Netherlands’ Judith Sargentini (Greens/EFA), who initiated the procedure in 2018. “I look forward to working with other political groups and leading a strong common charge against (Viktor) Orbán’s destruction of the rule of law. Next week’s plenary debate will be a good start”, said Ms Strik. Parliament will welcome the Hungarian prime minister on 18 September for a debate on the priorities of the Hungarian presidency of the EU Council. (SP)
