10/09/2024 (Agence Europe) – The European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) highlighted two LIFE projects “helping to clean up the atmosphere” on Monday 9 September, to mark International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies. One, in Poland, is “the largest air protection project in Europe”, according to CINEA. Entitled ‘Silesia, blue sky restored’ it has a budget of €16.5 million and brings together 74 municipalities to replace coal- and wood-fired boilers, which “generate smoke”, with cleaner gas heating systems and heat pumps. In Bulgaria, with a budget of €16.7 million, the second project also involves replacing “polluting domestic heating systems with greener alternatives” in six municipalities. 10,000 homes will be affected.
