10/09/24 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 10 September, the European Commissioner for Crisis Management, Janez Lenarčič, announced the arrival in Kabul of almost 100 tonnes of medical supplies to meet the urgent needs of the Afghan population. This delivery marks the third shipment of humanitarian supplies to Afghanistan this year as part of the EU airlift. According to the United Nations, over 23.7 million Afghans - more than half the population - require humanitarian aid. The situation is exacerbated by the effects of climate change, which are causing a widespread water crisis across the country. 15.8 million people are suffering from acute food insecurity, including 3.5 million facing extreme malnutrition and high morbidity rates. The EU has already allocated more than €125.5 million in aid to the country for 2024. (BD)
