02/09/24 (Agence Europe) – On Sunday 1 September, EU High Representative Josep Borrell called for a ceasefire in Gaza following the discovery of the bodies of six Israeli hostages. “We need a ceasefire to end this tragedy and bring all hostages home”, he pleaded on X. He said he was “horrified” by the “murder” of the six hostages. “These young innocent men and women should have long been brought to safety and to their loved ones. We stand with all hostages”, he said. On the evening of 1 September, tens of thousands of people demonstrated in several Israeli towns, followed by a general strike in the country on 2 September, to demand an agreement on the release of the hostages.
