25/07/24 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 23 July, the Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER) accepted the request made on 22 May 2024 by the National Regulatory Authorities (NRAs) of the Continental Europe Synchronous Area for a six-month extension to decide on the Transmission System Operators’ (TSOs) concerning the introduction of a new approach aimed at improving the calculation of Frequency Containment Reserves (FCRs). This approach aims to stabilise the power grid’s frequency in the event of supply and demand imbalances. NRAs now have until 17 January 2025 to reach an agreement on the TSOs’ proposal, which introduces a so-called “probabilistic” approach, taking into account load and generation patterns as well as inertia factors.
