On Wednesday 24 July, the European Commission updated the Delegated Act (EU) 2022/2202 linked to Regulation (EU) 2021/1153 establishing the ‘Connecting Europe Facility’ (CEF) funding programme, in order to update the list of selected cross-border projects in the field of renewable energy.
The very first list was adopted in a first delegated act in August 2022, and was amended the following year. This update is part of the third call for applications for cross-border renewable energy projects.
The new delegated act thus adds three projects to the list of selected cross-border projects aimed at contributing to decarbonisation, completing the internal energy market and improving security of supply.
The Commission also stressed that “the inclusion in the list brings benefits to the projects in terms of higher visibility”.
The new projects were selected following a call for projects concluded on 6 February. These projects are ‘Turnu Magurele - Nikopol Hydraulic Structures Assembly’ in Bulgaria and Romania, Bornholm Energy Island (BEI) in Denmark and Germany and PONTIS in Spain and the Netherlands.
The Parliament and the Council of the EU have two months to give their opinion on the delegated act, once it has been adopted by the European Commission. If no objections are raised, the act will enter into force at the end of this two-month period.
