18/07/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 16 July, the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) published the final version of the environmental protection technical specifications for electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft (‘eVTOL’), following the public consultation phase initiated in December 2023 (see EUROPE 13388/8). These technical specifications apply to aircraft equipped with tilting rotors, such as the Lilium Jet. Since noise emerged as one of the main concerns about air taxis in a 2021 study, the two documents published are based on existing international noise standards for conventional aircraft, adjusted to take account of the specific characteristics of eVTOLs. As well as measuring approach, take-off and overflight noise, they also include a hover noise assessment to help evaluate the noise impact of operations near vertiports.
