On the evening of Wednesday 17 July, the MEPs of the EPP Group elected their - mainly German - coordinators for the parliamentary committees. Their role is to chair the EPP group in the respective committees, build consensus among the group's MEPs, negotiate on its behalf with the other groups and act as spokespeople for the group on committee issues. Among those elected to the various committees: German MEPs Michael Gahler for ‘Foreign Affairs’, Markus Ferber for ‘Economic and Monetary Affairs’, Christian Ehler for ‘Industry, Research and Energy’, Peter Liese for ‘Environment, Public Health and Food Safety’, Lena Düpont for ‘Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs’, as well as Jörgen Warborn (Swedish) for ‘International Trade’ and Herbert Dorfmann (Italian) for ‘Agriculture’.
