On Wednesday 17 July, the European Parliament approved the proposal for the numerical strength of the twenty committees and four standing subcommittees for the first half of the 10th parliamentary legislature.
The Committee on Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI) remains the largest, with 90 members.
Here is the decision on the numerical composition of the committees: - Foreign Affairs (AFET): 79 members; - Development (DEVE): 25 members; - International Trade (INTA): 43 members; - Budgets (BUDG): 40 members (+1); - Budgetary Control (CONT): 30 members; - Economic and Monetary Affairs (ECON): 60 members (-1); - Employment and Social Affairs (EMPL): 60 members (+5); - Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI): 90 members (+2); - Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE): 90 members (+12); - Internal Market and Consumer Protection (IMCO): 52 members (+7); - Transport and Tourism (TRAN): 46 members (-3); - Regional Development (REGI): 41 members (-2); - Agriculture and Rural Development (AGRI): 49 members (+1); - Fisheries (PECH): 27 members (-1); Culture and Education (CULT): 30 members (+1); Legal Affairs (JURI): 25 members; - Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE): 75 members (+6); - Constitutional Affairs (AFCO): 30 members (+2); - Women’s Rights and Gender Equality (FEMM): 40 members (+3); - Petitions (PETI): 35 members.
The composition of the sub-committees is as follows: - Human Rights (DROI): 30 members; - Security and Defence (SEDE): 30 members; - Tax Matters (FISC): 30 members; - Public Health (SANT): 30 members.
The names of the MEPs appointed to each committee will be announced on Friday 19 July. The committees are due to meet on 23 July.
Interparliamentary delegations. MEPs also adopted the numerical composition of the interparliamentary delegations.
Among the most important, the Delegation for relations with the United States will have 64 members. The delegation to the OACPS-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly will have 78 members, while the delegation to the Euro-Latin American Parliamentary Assembly will have 75. The delegation for relations with China will comprise 38 members and the delegation for relations with Russia 31. The Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean will have 49 members, while the delegation to the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly will have 60. The European Economic Area (EEA) Joint Parliamentary Committee will have 18 members.
The composition of the delegations will be confirmed at the plenary session from 16 to 19 September in Strasbourg. The committees and delegations will elect their respective chairs and vice-chairs at their constituent meetings.
