Anti-torture Committee publishes highly critical report on Greece’s migrant detention system and calls for an end to pushbacks

Violence by the police and coastguards, unacceptable detention conditions, including against children, undignified EU-funded “Closed Controlled Access Centres”... these are just some of the criticisms in the report published on Friday 12 July by the Council of Europe’s Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT) which also calls for an end to pushback methods.

This text concludes a visit by the CPT to Greece from 21 November to 1 December 2023.
