European Commission approves Polish investment aid of around €194 million to support offshore wind energy sector

On Friday 12 July, the European Commission announced that it had authorised Polish investment aid of around €194 million (PLN 900.45 million) under the Recovery and Resilience Facility, made available in the form of a direct grant to the firm Istrana Sp. z o.o. This aid will enable Istrana to build an offshore wind terminal in the Polish seaport of Gdańsk, which should be operational in 2026.

The structure will serve as an installation terminal for building offshore wind farms.

The Commission stresses that the measure will support Poland’s objective of developing offshore wind farms with a total installed capacity of 11 GW by 2040, with an intermediate target of 2030, when 5.9 GW of capacity should be built.

The total investment cost of the project is approximately €253 million (PLN 1,178 million), of which approximately €194 million (PLN 900.45 million) will be provided through this state aid. The remainder will be financed by Istrana’s own funds. (Original version in French by Émilie Vanderhulst)
