First intervention of EU protection mechanism in Cyprus forest fires

12/06/2024 (Agence Europe) – Following several forest fires in Cyprus, Greece has sent two fire-fighting aircraft as part of the EU’s protection mechanism. This is the first time this year that the mechanism has been triggered, the Commission announced on Wednesday 12 June. In total, as part of its preparations for the forest fire season, the EU has deployed a fleet of 32 aerial fire-fighting resources and 556 fire-fighters, pre-positioned throughout Europe(see EUROPE B13378A11)....
