05/06/2024 (Agence Europe) – On the evening of Tuesday 4 June, the spokesperson for the European External Action Service explained that the EU was increasingly concerned about the rising tensions across the Blue Line, the ever-growing destruction and the forced displacement of civilians on both sides of the Israeli-Lebanese border. On Wednesday, the Israeli Prime Minister announced that his country was “ready for a very intense operation” on the northern border. “In line with UN Security Council resolution 1701, the EU calls on all actors to exercise restraint, prevent further tensions and engage in international diplomatic efforts, undertaken notably by France and the United States”, the spokesperson emphasised in a press release. He felt that de-escalating the situation would make a significant contribution to resolving the wider conflict in the Middle East. (CG)
