31/05/24 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 30 May, the Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER) announced that it was opening a public consultation from 5 September to 31 October, after receiving the proposal for an EU-wide network code on response to demand from the distribution system operators and ENTSO-E on 8 May. This proposal also includes changes to the three related electricity network codes (balancing, network operation and demand connection). Prior to consultation, ACER will review and revise the proposal. It will submit the finalised version to the European Commission by March 2025. The aim of the network code is to establish harmonised rules for demand response, which is considered essential if the growing share of renewable energies and new electricity loads are to be integrated in a cost-efficient way.
